My Music
A No Cage Kinda Day
Notes: This is my first original song. The lyrics were written during February - March of 2024. Yes, cabin fever had set in and I was longing to take a ride on my Harley Davidson Trike. When I first presented the lyrics to my producer Chuck DeFontes he thought when I said “cage” I meant an actual cage. No, bikers use the slang term ‘cagers’ to describe those who ride in vehicles. So, I changed Verse 3 to clear things up a bit. I've come to call it my ‘explanation verse’. I can't thank Chuck enough for his guidance and direction on this song. It was amazing to experience how this one went from a simple ‘click track’ to a full blown completed tune. The dual lead guitars on the outro were one of the last contributions Chuck added. A little ‘Boston Type’ sound that puts an exclamation point on the conclusion.

Lyrics:
Been stuck inside, oh forever it seems,
Warmer days are in my dreams.
The sun peaks through, oh it feels so nice,
We're heading out, no matter what the price.
Open the door, hop on the seat.
Turn the key, the engine sounds so sweet.
A twist of the grip and we're ready to go.
Where are we going, “Hell I don't know!”
It doesn't matter, what road you take,
Memories are there for you to make.
Two wheels or three is how we play.
It's gonna be a no cage kinda day, today.
It's all about the freedom that you feel,
When nothings around you that's made of steel.
We call it a cage to try and make you see,
That car you're driving won't set you free.
It doesn't matter, what road you take,
Memories are there for you to make.
Two wheels or three is how we play.
It's gonna be a no cage kinda day, today.
A Bookshelf Resting Place
Notes: This song is a tribute to my late Mother and Father. Both were extremely talented singers. My Mom was also a very talented pianist. My Dad was kind enough to pass down his high tenor vocal range to me. Thanks Pop.
In my music room I have a wooden urn for each of them that you guessed it, resides on a bookcase shelf. The title for this song just came to me one day while I was observing that spot. Like all of my songs to date, I come up with a title and build around it.
This tune is a collaboration between myself and producer Chuck DeFontes. We retained my original verses but Chuck authored the bridge lyrics and chords. It was teamwork at its finest.

Lyrics:
There's a place I go to most every day.
A room where songs just want to be played.
Before the music starts, I tend to gaze,
At their bookshelf resting place.
Their bookshelf resting place.
It sits in the corner, nothing fancy at all.
Bought years ago at the local mall.
There's books and records that fill the space,
Except their bookshelf resting place,
Their bookshelf resting…
Placing them way up high,
Sometimes I smile, sometimes I cry.
And when I close my eyes I see their face,
On that bookshelf resting place.
So when the music starts, and begins to flow,
They're in the front row for every show.
I only hope they hear every not and phrase,
From their bookshelf resting place,
Their bookshelf resting place.
Girl Blue Dress
Notes: This song is about an early memory of my wife Janet. I came home from work one day and she greeted me on the back step of our studio apartment. Yes, she was wearing a Blue dress and she opened her arms to greet me. I'm pretty sure it was shortly after we got married. Why it has stuck in my head for all of these years I'll never know.
This song got off to a curious start. The original title was ‘Girl In The Blue Dress’. As I was sitting in Chuck DeFontes studio he turned away from his computer and gave me an odd look and said “I have a suggestion. Look at my computer screen”. He had named the folder for my song ‘Girl Blue Dress’. He said “I think that could work”. Sure enough, it did. We started experimenting with verses and a chord progression for those lyrics. He came up with the intro, the first chorus, and a unique rhyming method. I went home that night and completely rewrote the remaining parts using his example. Yeah, the song went in a completely different but great direction.
One more detail regarding this tune. All of those nice harmonies you hear are Chuck's creation. We spent no less than eight (8) hours one Saturday recording those vocal parts. Yes, it was intense. Each harmony had to be exact otherwise it sounded horrible. I consider myself an accomplished singer but I had to repeat each one of my parts multiple times. It was humbling and frustrating but a good learning experience. I gotta admit, the results were worth it.

Lyrics:
I was a young man starting out on my own.
No family around me, I was all alone.
Girls came and went, nothing seemed to last,
Playing the backup got old oh so fast.
Hey there girl blue dress, I'm waiting for you.
I'm such a mess, what can you do.
Come end my loneliness,
Hey there, hey there girl blue dress.
I was the soundman for a local band.
It happened by chance, it wasn't planned.
We met one night at a nearby hall,
A kiss on the dance floor started it all.
Hey there girl blue dress, I found you today.
I must confess, I want you to stay.
Won't accept nothing less,
Hey there, hey there girl blue dress.
The memory is clear, she's standing outside,
My girl in that blue dress, arms open wide.
Hey there girl blue dress, were you expecting me?
I'm gonna guess it was meant to be.
My love I profess,
Hey there, hey there girl blue dress.
Ridin' In The Clouds
Notes: This song was inspired by a Trike trip my wife and I took in August of 2025. The clouds literally laid on top of Skyline Drive in Virginia. When we got home I was describing the trip to my good friend and producer Chuck DeFontes. I told him it was like we were “riding through the clouds”. It hit me immediately that would be a great song title.

Lyrics:
Yesterday's ride was long and hot.
The trip has brought me to this mountain spot.
A look out the window is a sad, sad show.
I can't see the valley that lies below.
No time to waste gotta hit the road,
A new destination is about to unfold.
The view ahead won't be clear today.
I'll be ridin' in the clouds all the way.
When the journey takes you high in the hills,
Where the air is thin, and you feel the chill.
The sky won't always be bright and blue.
A ride in the clouds is coming for you.
No time to waste gotta hit the road,
A new destination is about to unfold.
The view ahead won't be clear today.
I'll be ridin' in the clouds all the way.
Brown Street Memories
Notes: This is a song of reflection. In 1964 my family moved from Westerville, OH to a small town called Bellefontaine. We lived on Brown Street during my Elementary School years. As I look back, it was a great time to be a kid. Many friends and during the summer we literally lived on our bikes. Hope you enjoy this travel back in time.

Lyrics:
It's where we lived, in that Ohio town,
Lots of childhood mischief could be found.
A creek and some woods were not far away,
Muddy shoes and poison ivy were there to stay.
It was a simpler time, and a slower pace.
A feeling of innocence you can't replace.
Many years have since we've been gone.
Those Brown Street memories they still live on.
Bikes with banana seats were all the rage,
We rode all ove like a Tour De France Stage.
Mom always knew weree you were all day,
She had more spies than the C.I.A.
It was a simpler time, and a slower pace.
A feeling of innocence you can't replace.
Many years have since we've been gone.
Those Brown Street memories they still live on.
You can't replace those younger years,
They shape who you are, that's oh so clear.
Snow days were spent at Mary Rutan Park,
Our sleds went down that hill until it got dark.
It was a simpler time, and a slower pace.
A feeling of innocence you can't replace.
Many years have since we've been gone.
Those Brown Street memories they still live on.
